The

Good directions to UMBC can be found at: http://www.umbc.edu/aboutumbc/directions.html
Andy Hayleck is an extraordinarily imaginative and thorough
electro-acoustic composer in Baltimore whose work involves the
invention of new instruments, unusual sound captured contact microphones,
amplified water, gongs on strings, and complex uses of acoustical
and digital feedback. He has a background in jazz composition
but you would never know it given his extremely abstract compositions.
Michael Zerang is one of the countries foremost new music
percussionists, whose work in The Vandermark 5, his own solo music,
and numerous avant-garde collaborations is characterized by incredible
precision and broad technique, with influences including rock,
free jazz, modern classical, and his native Assyrian heritage.
Each musician will give a short lecture and demonstration performance,
as well as taking questions from the audience.
