Sound Installations

High Zero Installation Opening Reception
Thursday, September 7th, 6PM-8PM
FREE!

This year the High Zero Festival features four major new works of sound-based art installation at The Maryland Institute College of Art. All are invited to the opening reception on September 7th from 6PM-8PM in the Brown Center, 1301 Mount Royal Avenue. Food and beverages will be served.

The Installations:

Peter Blasser
"Mica Rossana Conceptis"

For the period of this installation, the statuary will emit wisps of ancient life. Please write your question in Latin (or any other official ancient language) on the slate. Wait a day or so, your answer will arrive in Latin and may be forwards or backwards. (Located in the lobby of the Main Building - the white marble bulding across the street from the Brown Center)

Ju Suk Reet Meate
"The Restless spirit of Lee Rockey, sonic explorer."

Using multiple sound sources and visual artifacts the piece attempts to illuminate the conflicts and rewards of a truly relentless searcher, Lee Rockey 1926-2002 . After mastering modern jazz drumming by 1946, he slowly but boldly embraced the Chaos of the moment, much to the chagrin of his contemporaries, for the rest of his life. (Located in the downstairs lobby of the Brown Center)

David S. More
"Audio Tape Recovery Project"

A display of audio tape recovered from the streets and from the gutters, found fluttering from trees all across the globe, repaired and ready for listening. (Located in the upstairs lobby of the Brown Center)

Alessandro Bosetti and Audrey Chen
"Aperto."

"Aperto," meaning "Open," is an object whose main components are air and occasional sound. It is tactile, perceivable, audible and regardless of its facilitators, is completely invisible. (Located in the upstairs lobby of the Brown Center)

Saturday Matinee (Day), September 16th -- SPECIAL EVENT!!!

Three amazing special projects:

The Superimposition of Place
“Remote viewing” is given a new meaning as three improvisors around Baltimore interact via transmission with three in the Theatre Project, using only recently available technology and video projection. Three “places” become “one” as the improvisors straddle interdimensional musical dynamics.

OUT:
Jac Berrocal: trumpet, voice
Cooper Moore: self-built instruments
Catherine Pancake: percussion, inventions

IN:
Samuel Burt: clarinets, computer
Michael Formanek: acoustic bass
Leonel Kaplan: trumpet

Music Plus One
Special guest record-hounds Ian Nagoski and Rupert Wondolowski will provide selected vinyl records for a series of duos between pre-recorded sound and live improvisation. The improvisors choose a record and play along with it. Every record can use a little something extra!

Alessandro Bosetti: saxophone, electronics
Chiara Giovando: voice, violin, electronics
Jackie Stewart: turntables, electronics

Battle of the Bands
Competitive team improvising with your host, Tom Boram, and captains Alexandra Macchi and Max Eisenberg as they lead ten musicians in a battle for outright supremancy. These improvisors are out for blood and have their eye on the gold trophy, so we can expect something beyond your usual improvising--thats right, NO HOLDS BARRED.
