PUBLIC WORKSHOPS--FREE

This year we have two really exciting free events taught by participants in the festival...

Master Percussionist LE QUAN NINH (Tolouse, France)
Friday, October 1st, 2PM at UMBC
Fine Arts Building, room 508, free
performance and percussion clinic

Directions: www.umbc.edu/aboutumbc/directions.html
A rare chance to see one of the most amazing European drummers perform and discuss his extremely unusual approach to percussion. Among other things, Ninh's music very much fits his own term "Spectral Music on a Low Budget"--in that he makes incredibly evocative textural soundscapes without the use of computers. Ninh also has extraordinary technique which never gets in the way of his intense musicality.

The Duet: Movement and sound
Nicole Bindler (movement) and John Berndt (sound)
Sunday, October 3rd, 10:30 at Experimental Movement Concepts

3618 Falls Road, 3rd floor, Baltimore, Md. 21218
This jointly taught dance/improvisation workshop is geared toward dancers of all levels who are interested in honing their listening skills and experimenting with live music collaborations. How can we stay connected to our own sensations and impulses while attending to another element in our dance: music? The focus will be experiential rather than theoretical.
